Trick or Treat

Luke LOVES trick or treating and we have some fun houses in our neighborhood to go to.
For example, Dr. Baker serves apple cider and mini cinnamon rolls.

Here is Luke in front of the Wells home. They have a fun Dracula on their porch that Luke thinks is pretty cool.
All the candy that Luke brought home. He was nice enough to share some of it with his mom and his dad.

Swing Batter Batter

Luke received a bat and ball for his birthday. He was pretty excited. He asked Dustin to go out and play ball with him before they went out trick or treating.

Luke did pretty good. Dustin would throw the ball to him and Luke actually hit the ball a couple of times. With a little more practice, he could be pretty good.

Mentors

Yes that is Luke's truck and he is "working" on it. Dustin showed me this picture that he had taken with his cell phone while they were working in the garage. Lucas found the jacks Dustinhas in the garage and wanted to jack his truck up. Dustin tried to give him the small one but Lucas wasn't fooled - he needed the big one. Then he slid under the truck on a creeper to take a look. The entire time Lucas was under there, he was commenting on the screws under there and what "work" needed to be done. I thought this picture was hysterical!

It has made me think about how important our time is with the boys and what an awesome responsibility we have. They are watching us and listening to us, are we doing what we should be doing? Luke is constantly asking, "why?" And it's great that's he asking although sometimes it also gets a little tiresome. Poor Dustin gets it more than I do because he is with them the most. I guess in a way, you could say that he is Luke's mentor. Luke desperately wants to be like his dad, be with his dad, and do everything that his dad does. It's a big job but I think that we have the right person for the job. Dustin is an awesome dad and it's great to see how much he cares about the boys and how much time he spends with them as well. Dustin and Luke are constantly snickering and laughing about things that I just don't get. They have such fun together. Grant and Luke sure are lucky boys!

Just the Boys!

Dustin really wanted to do something special with Lucas and so he took him to the drive-in movies. Since Kung Fu Panda just came out and Lucas really wanted to see that movie - they went. Just the two of them. Mommy and Grant stayed home while the 'big guys' went out.
During the movie, Lucas was laughing so hard that Dustin had to tell him to keep it down so the neighbors wouldn't complain. I guess it was a funny movie.
On the way to the movie, they stopped to get gas and of course they bought a couple treats at the gas station. Lucas ate so much junk food that he made himself sick.
As they were waiting for the movie to start, Lucas told Dustin "This is nice."
Lucas also told Dustin that they are best friends. He brought up the Golden Rule as well and that we need to treat people the way we want to be treated. Dustin said it was quite the night!

Gone Fishin'

Dustin is a great dad. Lucas has been obsessed with fishing lately. So Dustin made him his own fishing pole from a branch, string and a hook. Lucas is not allowed by the creek by himself, so he sat with Lucas while he fished. They had a great time together - just hanging out.

P.S. Lucas has informed Dustin that he is his Best Friend!

Tulip Planter

Lucas has a great time at Home Depot every month doing the free workshop they have for kids. This month was a tulip planter and Lucas brought it home to paint. He was very intent on picking the right colors and getting it in the right spot. He was concentrating pretty hard. It looked great when it was done. Lucas decided to give it to his Grammy for Mother's Day.

Flower Boxes and Race Cars

Lucas loves tools! The first Saturday of every month, Home Depot has a free workshop for kids to come and build something. Lucas LOVES it and Dustin is an awesome Dad to take him to these workshops.

Here is Lucas holding the race car and the wooden basket he put together.

Men at Work

Lucas loves to help! Anything Dustin does, he wants to do it too. Sometimes (or a lot of times) it would be faster and easier without his help but he is so eager and how else is he going to learn?
This is a pretty crappy phone picture but you can make out that there was a lot of snowfall and the snow is as tall as Lucas.  Hopefully in a few years we can just send him out to take care of it and he can do it on his own!!

I Love to see the Temple

Lucas noticed a picture of Laura and I on our wedding day hanging on the wall. We were standing in front of the temple. He proudly told me that he knew what the temple was and that he wanted to go there some day. I said that when he is bigger he can get married in the temple like mommy and daddy. He told me that he already was big. I said, "Well, then who are you going to marry?". He told me that he wanted me to pick for him. Lucas loves to have me pick what cereal he has in the morning or what book to read. I guess he really trusts my opinion! I told him that maybe he should find the girl himself and get to know her, then I can "approve" of her.

Coffee!

A couple Sundays ago, I picked Lucas up from his Primary class and he ran up to me (for once) and he gave me a big hug. Then he pulled back a little and said, "I had coffee!"

"What?!?", I said and he told me he had coffee. It turns out they gave the kids taffy as a treat. And he liked it.

So today Dustin took him to Taffy Town and they picked out a bunch of taffy. Lucas was in heaven! Lucas has since learned how to say taffy so there is no more confusion about what he's eating.

Wild Wednesdays

During the winter months, Hogle Zoo has free admission for all Salt Lake County residents called Wild Wednesdays. Dustin took Lucas even though it was a pretty cold day. But the colder days are better because the animals are A LOT more active. They spent quite a bit of time watching the tigers. A couple of the were sleeping but the others were quite playful.

Here is the vulture that Lucas was a little stunned to see ripping apart a cute, little, yellow chick for a meal. Not quite what they were expecting to see.
Of course Lucas rode the carousel because Dustin has a hard time saying no. And since Lucas loves giraffe's, that's what he chose to ride.

Talking Tom

Lucas loves the apps on Dustin's iphone. One of his favorites is Talking Tom and the two of them made a message and sent it to me at work. I loved it and so did my co-workers - they thought it was hilarious!
